ESOL Entry 2 - Speaking & Listening

This course is for students who can speak some English and can write in basic form. You will learn to take part in simple conversations in social situations. The lessons are friendly and you will be able to learn new words. You will improve your reading and writing skills and, if you are ready, take an Edexcel SfL ESOL Entry 2 Speaking and Listening exam in either the autumn or spring term. You will take your Edexcel SfL ESOL Reading and Writing exam in the spring term.You will improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing in the lessons, and learn how to hold conversations about day-to-day topics such as jobs, hobbies and interests, travel, entertainment, food, cooking, family life, health, schooling, as well as world issues like protecting the environment. The teachers will be happy to include your ideas in lessons to suit your needs. You will be given a lot of help with grammar and learn new vocabulary every session. The lessons are lively and friendly, and you will have lots of time to practise speaking English in pairs and in small groups. You will take part in interesting activities such as discussions, role plays and games, to help you express your ideas. There will be help with pronunciation during lessons. Your listening skills will improve by listening to English voices on audio and practising your pronunciation. Lessons will include reading texts for you to increase your vocabulary and improve your reading skills. Your writing skills will improve by learning the techniques for producing accurate English. You will be taught how to write informal letters, notes, messages and short compositions on different subjects. Your teacher will give you homework after each lesson which may include using the internet and email. You will be able to use the Learning Centre to work by yourself using ELS books, audio and computer materials and the internet. You can also borrow reading books at your own level.
