We will help you to: - Become more confident in a variety of situations where you have to speak. - Read a range of different written materials and use the information in them. - Write to communicate information, ideas and opinions. - Improve your grammar. - Work with other people in preparation for the workplace.This course will help you with: SPEAKING AND LISTENING - Work with others to discuss a range of subjects and offer your opinion and respond to others' opinions. - Prepare information for sharing with other people. - The lessons will be lively and student-centred to encourage and practise speaking and communication in social situations. - You will work in groups and pairs and pronunciation will be checked and practised. - You will practise listening to different material. You will practise listening for detail and gist. READING - Read a range of different texts such as books, articles, information. - Find detailed information in texts. - Use information in texts. WRITING - Write to give information. - Write to give your opinion. - Use a variety of formal and informal styles. - Use a variety of ways of presenting your written work. GRAMMAR - Improve your grammar so that your written work is easy to understand. - Use correct tenses. - Use correct punctuation. - Know how to spell words correctly. You will work with other students in the class in the same way as you would in the workplace. You will be given the opportunity to use websites to help you with your English and to use the college intranet system for self study and to access work set by your tutor.

You will meet with your teacher at least once a term to set targets to improve areas of English that you find difficult. You will take the ESOL Skills for Life Speaking and Listening exam at Level 1.
