In this qualification, learners have an opportunity to develop their core model theory and compare this with other theories. The qualification is of 420 hours in total and this includes two full funded residential weekends one in the 1st and one in the 2nd year. Core units cover skills practice, professional and ethical issues and human development. The importance of ethical practice is emphasised throughout the qualification. There is a requirement of 100 hours of client work associated with this qualification. "Students have to be in therapy themselves for 50 hours over the two year duration of the course. The cost of this is not included within the course fees and currently costs approximately £25 per hour for student therapist." This course is intended for those who wish to work towards professional accredited status as a counselling practitioner.- Safety (ethics, boundaries, and safety for self and client. Membership of the BACP is compulsory) - Relationship ( building a relationship between Volunteer Counsellor and client in an agency setting) - Difference and Diversity ( acknowledging and respecting each other's differences in terms of race, culture, age, gender, abilities, applying equal opportunities to the relationship) - Service User Centred ( putting the client at the centre of the process, ensuring that the Volunteer Counsellor adheres to the BACP Framework for Good Practice in putting the needs of the client at the heart of the therapeutic process) - Self Awareness ( Developing emotional intelligence as a trainee, learning how to listen to self and others in a caring Rogerian way of being) - Gaining understanding of the range of theories that inform practice ranging from Freud, Klein, Bowlby, Adler and other Psychodynamic theories to the Humanistic theories of Fritz Perls, Maslow, Rogers, Kahn, Gill, Kohut, Mearns and Thorne, and extending the theory base to include Existential Philosophy including Rollo May, Irvin Yalom, Heide
