BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Drama, Acting and Dance) Level 3

This course emphasises learning and develops practical performance skills through technique classes and is performance-based, including performing in at least two major productions each year. You will study 18 units over the duration of your course and experience a broad range of technique, rehearsal and performance work. You will have the option of specialising in dance or drama, although you will be required to take some classes in both specialisms to broaden your skills. You will learn how to assess and reflect on your own progress and provide constructive feedback to others when working in small and large groups. Your academic work focuses on research into the original productions of creative works. You will learn about different aspects of the performing arts business and how you can move on to your next step in the industry at the end of your course. Most of our students progress to university, drama schools and dance colleges and many become performers or performing arts teachers. Core units include: Performance workshop, Historical context of performance, Performing arts business, Rehearsing and performing. Additional units include: Acting - principles of acting, acting styles, drama improvisation, physical theatre, theatre in education, scriptwriting, voice, musical theatre, devising, classical theatre, contemporary theatre. Dance - jazz dance, ballet, contemporary dance, urban dance, choreography, dance performance, dance improvisation, choreographic principles.
