Diploma in Preparing for a Career in the Hospitality Industry

An introductory programme to give you the essential knowledge and skills for starting your career in the hospitality and catering industry and ideally help you to progress on to a VRQ Professional Cookery Diploma at level 1 or level 2. This course provides you with practical skills in food preparation and cooking and food service through training in the college's purpose-built kitchens and restaurants. It is hands-on and gives you a real taste of working in the industry. The course is the perfect platform to give you the confidence to progress with your studies or obtain your first position in the industry. Your training will be a mix of both practical and theory based lessons covering a variety of units, including food preparation and cooking, customer service and teamwork. You will learn to cook in a professional environment supported by a team of experienced tutors. Your studies will start with an Introductory Certificate in Home Cooking Skills, followed by a BTEC Certificate in Hospitality level 1. You will also complete some personal and social development through additional Work Skills qualifications and study maths and English.
