Calligraphy - All Levels

UPDATED 20160503 12:57:17

This course takes us back to the very beginnings by looking at different styles of writing from as early as the inscribed letters carved on Roman Columns to the later Italics hands. We study a different style each term and start by researching a manuscript and identifying key characteristics, how letters are formed and written and how we can use the script with our modern alphabet. Various projects are completed which include using colour by mixing and writing with gouache, exploring different layouts and seasonal projects. Learners choose a topic each term which can help them to research and choose text, layout and appropriate decoration if desired. Summer term: Rustic and modern capitals
