Diploma in Personal Progress (Entry 1)

This course is for 16 year old students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and offers the opportunity to access a general further education college. This full time course is offered by Dovestones and is based on the skills students will need to participate as citizens within the community and, where possible, within the workplace. Following on extensive initial assessment period, individual tasks will be set for each student, recorded on their Individual Learning Plan (ILP), and worked towards their curriculum. Students will work towards: Developing Skills for Daily Living, Developing Skills for the Workplace, Developing Community Participation Skills, and Travel within the community. Students will also continue to develop Literacy, Numeracy, and ICT skills. On successful completion, students will receive a nationally recognised qualification from City & Guilds.

Entry requirements

The course is partially based in Dovestones where students benefit from a wide range of specialist facilities including the ICT suite. In addition to lessons taught in Dovestones students can access a wide range of vocational areas and other college facilities. Vocational areas accessed include Construction, Sports, Hair & Beauty, Art, Food Studies and Motor Vehicles. Where appropriate students are supported in their learning by the physiotherapy team, the speech and language team and nursing support. Students access a wide range of other Children and Adult Services.
