You will explore drama and theatre. You will study two plays, examine how they have been put together and you will then assess how they can be brought to life on the stage. You will look at all aspects of the production from acting and directing to design set and costumes to the lighting. The second unit concentrates on putting on a play and performing a monologue. Your second year of study will start with an exploration of dramatic performance. This involves extensive group work and culminates in the creation of an original piece of theatre. The piece will be performed in front of an invited audience. In addition to the performance elements of the course a further unit focuses on theatre text. This is the textual study of a play and the contextualising of it within history. The course is delivered through a mixture of practical workshops in the studios and more theoretical classroom-based sessions. Assessment is through a combination of written and practical coursework and an externally examined performance. Students have the opportunity to go on a range of trips and visits including The Globe Theatre and the V& A Theatre Museum in London and various Manchester based trips.
