Year 12 – AS Dance The course involves both the practical and the academic study of dance. Students will develop choreographic skills, improve performance skills and watch and appreciate a broad range of dance works. There will be many opportunities to see professional dance works live and to take part in workshops led by dance artists, thereby improving understanding and knowledge of the current dance scene. In year 12 students will focus on the development and performance of their own choreographic work as well as performing within a duo or trio. Training will be focused around dance technique and the health and safety of the dancer. They will begin to develop critical skills for the analysis of choreography and performance in both their own work and within professional repertoire. The second component of the qualification involves critical engagement with professional set works. This involves a written examination paper with questions focusing on reflective practice and the work of professional dance artists. Year 13 – A Level Dance The focus of choreography is shifted towards group dance. Students will develop knowledge and understanding of a specific area of study related to the development of a dance genre, and performance skills will be developed in relation to one of the study areas. Students will continue to receive instruction on technique and performance AS Level - Performance and choreography – 50% of grade, practical moderation between March and May 2 tasks - 1.Performance of solo choreography 2. Performance in a duo/trio Critical Engagement – 50% of AS grade, written paper examined within the June examination series A Level - Performance and choreography – 50% of grade, practical moderation between March and May 3 tasks – 1. Solo performance 2. Performance in a quartet 3. Group choreography Critical Engagement – 50% of A Level grade, written paper examined within the June examination series
