This is a course, which has been designed especially for students to become independent and self-motivated learners. The study of photographers forms an essential backbone to the course, as well as links to artists, designers and culture in general. Students will be expected to become more and more independent in their studies, but will be guided at first by various themes. Students will be required to carry out detailed research and evaluate contemporary and historical photographs as well as their own work. They will be asked to produce shoots in response to research and in turn develop their own skills. The course will look at image manipulation with Photoshop and students will learn how to use ICT as a tool. Most work will be school based. However, a willingness to venture widely in pursuit of photography is an important quality to have on the course. We will also, run after-school sessions and will try to provide opportunities for visits. You will also be expected to complete further hours of independent study and research each week. Unit 1: Portfolio Unit. Theme 1. Portraiture. Theme 2. The City. Unit 2: Externally Set Assignment. Year 13: Component 1 is a practical unit with written elements. The final Component 2 is working from set themes.
