Across A-Level the 10 following topic areas will be covered - 1 What is business? 2 Managers, leadership and decision making 3 Decision making to improve marketing performance 4 Decision making to improve operational performance 5 Decision making to improve financial performance 6 Decision making to improve human resource performance 7 Analysing the strategic position of a business (A-level only) 8 Choosing strategic direction (A-level only) 9 Strategic methods: how to pursue strategies (A-level only) 10 Managing strategic change (A-level only). A Level students will complete topics 1-10 and will be assessed by three external examinations. Each A Level paper will be a written exam of 2 hour consisting of 100 marks and equalling 33.3% of the total A Level. Paper 1 - Business 1 -Three compulsory sections: * Section A has 15 multiple choice questions (MCQs) worth 15 marks. * Section B has short answer questions worth 35 marks. * Sections C and D have two essay questions (choice of one from two) worth 25 marks each. Paper 2 - Business 2 -Three data response compulsory questions worth approximately 33 marks each and made up of three or four part questions. Paper 3 - Business 3 - One compulsory case study followed by approximately six questions. Topics 1-10 develop students understanding of business looking at objectives, legal structures, finance, shareholders and external influences. This develops into an understanding of decisions that can be made to improve areas of business with a focus on the functional areas; human resources, operations, finance and marketing. The last four topics focus on strategy and change in a business context. Student will analyse the current position of given businesses and make judgments on the strategies they could pursue. This will also involve considering business that have undergone transformation or change in recent times affecting the dynamic of the business.
