"AS Level Inorganic/Physical Chemistry - Physical chemistry: includes atomic structure, amount of substance, bonding, energetics, kinetics, chemical equilibria and Le Chatelier’s principle. Inorganic chemistry: includes periodicity, Group 2 the alkaline earth metals, Group 7 the halogens. AS Level Organic/Physical Chemistry - Organic chemistry: includes introduction to organic chemistry, alkanes, halogenoalkanes, alkenes, alcohols, organic analysis. Aims of Course: Chemistry is involved in almost everything in our daily lives: from the air that we breathe to the clothes that we wear, the food that we eat and fuels to keep us warm. New materials such as plastics, life saving medicines and pesticides have all been developed by Chemists working in a wide variety of industries. This Chemistry course aims to prepare you for study at a higher level in order to understand how these materials are made and react, and to provide you with advanced study skills demanded in higher education. Approaches to Learning: Theory backed by practical skills. Problem solving and mathematical skills. Who is this course aimed at? Generally those who wish to study Sciences at a high level. It is a challenging course. Compulsory for Medicine, advised for Biology. Combines well with all the Sciences and Maths to give a broad Science education. It is usually advisable to study at least two Sciences at A level."
