Contemporary Embellishment: Modern Smocking Techniques

Smocking is a fabric manipulation technique that is generally formed by using hand stitching to create areas of tension and release in the fabric. This results in very sculptural effects that can sometimes appear far more complex than they actually are. Using smocking techniques to manipulate fabric results in striking sculptural effects that can elevate a garment into a unique piece, the envy of all.
