Fifteenth-century Florence was the setting for great intellectuals, cruel conspiracies among leading families, and Savonarola's gloomy prophecies of redemption. Over two generations the art of Sandro Botticelli perfectly portrayed the changing identity of Florence, from its public splendour to its anguished piety. Interpret masterpieces such as 'Venus and Mars', 'The Mystical Nativity' (London, National Gallery), the 'Holy Trinity' (London, the Courtauld Institute of Art), and gain a broader knowledge in identifying Botticelli's key works and style. Please note that there may be an entrance fee for gallery visits.
