"Successful completion of the AS course allows progression to A2. A Level Mechanics 1, Pure Core 3 & Pure Core 4 - Examined in Year 13. Aims of Course: * To develop their understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes in a way that promotes confidence and fosters enjoyment. * To develop an appreciation of the nature of mathematics and mathematical processes. * To develop the skills of modelling, generalisation and interpretation of results relevant to both applications and developments of mathematics. * To develop an ability to construct logical arguments and understand the nature of rigour. Approaches to learning: Mathematics A Level is a modular course but there is not a coursework element to any of the modules. All modules, with the exception of Pure Core 1, require the use of a calculator. You will learn through a variety of approaches including supported self study. Who is this course aimed at? Importantly you have found mathematics interesting and enjoyable, yet challenging. The course builds upon the foundations laid at GCSE The course develops rigorous and logical thought processes and provides pupils with an opportunity to develop problem solving and analytical skills. These are valuable skills in many walks of life, and it is for these reasons that the subject is so highly regarded by employers and universities. Pupils with an A Level in Mathematics progress to study a broad range of subjects at university. Although many students do go on to study a range of mathematics and science related subjects and engineering, finance, medicine and veterinary science, an A Level in Mathematics opens numerous doors."
