The English Language Edexcel A-Level course challenges our concepts of language and asks questions such as: How do we learn how to speak and write? Where do words come from? Is the language currently being corrupted or is linguistic change gr8? Does language shape our identity or does our identity shape our language? Students will learn to analyse a wide range of spoken, written and multimodal texts effectively while applying a range of theories and using detailed linguistic terminology. They will be encouraged to research independently a range of sources to enable contributions to class discussions; examples of language analysed ranges from informal text messages to formal speeches in the House of Commons, as well as variations of language use globally, regionally, socially and through time.
