You need an interest in the language and literature of Classical Rome. If you like Classical Civilisation and languages, this course gives you the opportunity to learn more about the life and culture of ancient Roman citizens through reading Latin prose and verse literature. The Course Involves the study of a wide range of literature from the Roman era. This includes reading The Aeneid by Virgil, The History of Rome by Livy, Caesar's Conquest of Britain & Gaul as well as works by Cicero, Tacitus, Catullus and Juvenal. The focus will be on Roman mythology, religion, everyday life, the senate and the army. Latin AS/A2 level combines language and history subjects and can be studied by students who have an A* - C GCSE. Assessment: AS examinations: 1 Latin language paper, 1 verse & prose literature paper A2 examinations: 1 Latin verse literature paper, 1 Latin prose literature paper There is no coursework requirement for this subject. Studying Latin AS/A2 level can lead to a university degree in many subjects including Classics, History and Law as well as many other Humanities subjects.
