Theatre Studies - Linear A Level You need an interest in the subject - an enjoyment of all aspects of the theatre, performing, directing, theory and technical aspects. A grade C in GCSE Drama or Expressive Arts or relevant experience is essential. The course involves writing, reading, improvisations, and study of the theory of theatre, performing and producing plays. As far as possible, these are done in practical sessions. Visits to the theatre are made throughout the course and students are expected to undertake a programme of wider reading. Second year students currently enjoy a residential trip as part of the course. Assessment and Examinations: Component 1 - Knowledge and understanding of drama and theatre - Study of two set plays - Analysis and evaluation of the work of live theatre marks Component 2: Creating Original Drama (practical) - Process of creating devised drama - Performance of devised drama (students may contribute as performer, designer or director) - Devised piece must be influenced by the work and methodologies on one prescribed practitioner Component 3: Making Theatre (practical) - Practical exploration of three extracts 9Extract 1, 2 and 3) each taken from a different play. Methodology of a prescribed practitioner must be applied to Extract 3 - Extract 3 is to be performed as a final assessed piece (students may contribute as a performer, designer or director) - Reflective report analysing and evaluating theatrical interpretation of all three extracts
