Duration: 2 years This course is aimed at the art student who has an interest in acquiring and extending their practical 'hands-on' making skills and widening their knowledge of art and design disciplines. Both years are divided into three term-long projects and cover aspects of the following: drawing',' illustration',' mixed media',' painting',' sculptural techniques',' 3D design',' installation',' print making',' photography',' contextual studies',' model making',' costume',' painting - and the development of a portfolio. There are research trips each term and regular opportunities to publicly display work to a professional standard. Projects emphasise the importance of research and the creative development of coursework - learning along the way about various influence and cultural references to allow for a more personal response. The first year fosters the development of sound working practices',' encouraging confident and skillful making skills',' exploiting a range of traditional and contemporary materials and techniques - allowing students to discover their strengths and direction. The focus of the second year is for students to identify and refine their area of interest. Greater self-reliance to planning and collecting research references encourages students to become creatively independent. The growing confidence in 'making' skills and development of personal approaches to creating projects culminates in students negotiating their own contribution to a project brief centred on a group exhibition. Entry Requirements: You need five GCSEs at grade C or above',' or equivalent',' including English language',' maths and an art and design subject at GCSE',' or Level 2 Diploma at merit or distinction with GCSE English and maths at Grade C.
