This 33 week British Sign Language (BSL) course in Gravesend leads to the Signature Level 1 Award in British Sign Language. If you want to learn how to communicate with Deaf people in every day situations or just have a keen interest in learning this language then this is the course for you. You will learn the basics to converse in BSL as well as the cultural aspects of the Deaf community., , At the end of the course successful students should be able to:, • greet Deaf people using British Sign Language and communicate about familiar day-to-day topics including counting, the weather, transport and directions., • communicate with Deaf people using British Sign Language about people, animals and objects in the home., • communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language about interests and activities using numbers in relation to age, time, money and calendar. , • communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language about school, college or work including directions and refreshments and using numbers in relation to time and calendar., , There are three units and each unit is assessed by means of a short one-to-one conversation with the tutor which will be videoed and sent to Signature for final judgement. There will be assigned days for the three assessments during course hours. Dates, which cannot be altered, will be advised by the tutor. You will need to practice your BSL regularly outside of the classroom - the tutor will give advice on opportunities to do this., Anyone who wants to learn how to communicate with Deaf people or who simply has an interest in Sign Language. For those who are new to British Sign Language or who may have already attended a Sign Language Taster or a Basics course., , There is a concession for students who have a hearing impairment or who have close relatives who have a hearing impairment.
