This Sign Language course in Dover is a one year-course leading to the Signature Level 1 Award in British Sign Language., , At the end of the course students should be able to:, - greet Deaf people using British Sign Language (BSL) and communicate about familiar day-to-day topics including the weather, transport and directions (incorporating use of numbers)., - communicate with Deaf people using BSL about people, animals and objects in the home., - communicate with Deaf people in BSL about interests and activities using numbers in relation to age, time, money and calendar. , - communicate with Deaf people in BSL about school, college or work including directions and refreshments and using numbers in relation to time and calendar., , There are three units and each unit is assessed by means of a short one-to-one conversation with the tutor which will be videoed and sent to Signature for final judgement. There will be assigned days for the three assessments during course hours. Dates, which cannot be altered, will be advised by the tutor. You will need to practice your BSL regularly outside of the classroom - the tutor will give advice on opportunities to do this., , **PLEASE NOTE: Regular attendance, a high level of commitment and approximately 2 hours of home study is a requirement from you, enrolling on this course.** Anyone who wants to learn how to communicate with Deaf people or who simply has an interest in Sign Language. For those who are new to British Sign Language or who may have already attended a Sign Language Taster or a Basics course., , There is a concession for students who have a hearing impairment or who have close relatives who have a hearing impairment.
