In this 10-week course in Tunbridge Wells, we will study the development of our laws in England and Wales. We will look at where our laws come from and how new laws are made. We will look at the legal profession, including the training routes for barristers, solicitors and judges; jurors and Magistrates and the Court system. We will introduce the differences between civil and criminal law, and will consider some specific criminal offences and introduce the tort of negligence. , At the end of the course students will:, • Be able to identify where our laws come from, and how new laws are made,, • Be able to explain the differences between civil and criminal law,, • Be able to identify some different criminal offences, ie. Murder and manslaughter;, • Be able to understand the basics of the law of tort,, • Have a better understanding of the legal process and members of the legal profession and Courts in England and Wales as a whole. , This should be a fun, interesting and informative day course for any individual interested in learning more about the law. No previous knowledge or qualifications are required. Students should be prepared to participate in discussions.
