Life Drawing and Painting

This Life Drawing course is aimed at a range of abilities and experience. It will cover a range of approaches to life drawing, e.g. quick poses, exercises that help improve observation, drawing with positive and negative spaces and drawing on the right side of the brain, as well as more formal approaches to study proportion, tone, form and flesh tones. There will be an opportunity to use and experiment with a range of media, both traditional and experimental, e.g. pencil, charcoal, collage, paint, stick and ink. , By the end of the course you will be able to:, Use proportion conventions and strategies to increase accuracy of figure drawing, Produce drawings that demonstrate an understanding on tone, i.e. shadows, mid tones and highlights, Produce paintings that demonstrate an understanding of colour theory and a limited palette, i.e. 3 primaries and white to mix flesh tones., Produce drawings and paintings that demonstrate the use of a range of mark making techniques, such as pen and ink, ink and wash, broad charcoal marks, linear charcoal marks, broad brush strokes, translucent washes., Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines, , Anyone who has completed other Life drawing courses, have the equivalent Art experience or an interest in learning how to draw from a Life Model. The course aims to differentiate so that it is appropriate for beginners as well as those who are more experienced., It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another person, please ask to speak with the Programme Manager before you enrol.

Entry requirements

You should bring an A3 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you. If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy.
