Literature - Explore Shakespeare in Performance

This is a course designed to transform the written mode into live theatre and to enable the student to lift the word off the page in order to communicate Shakespeare's intent to an audience. The group will engage in a process of exploration in interpretation in order to produce an inspiring performance of Shakespeare's dramatic text. Discussion, analysis, and reflection will lend an informed foundation upon which to build in the practical work. Students will approach the text using dramatic modes, for example, improvisation and devising to "make it their own". Indepth understanding will enable the student to foreground the intent of Shakespeare's text in performance. Tuition in regular voice work will aid the student to lend vocal expression to the verse to articulate with clarity of diction and to project the lines effectively in performance to inspire an audience. Drama and movement exercises will encourage students to gain command of the role and to communicate Shakespeare's text with confidence, spatial awareness and dramatic verve., , At the end of the Course students will be able to:, , • show an in depth understanding , analysis and discussion of Shakespeare's performance text in a group dynamic, • approach Shakespeare's scenes in practice, with creative focus and dramatic, communicative skill through a variety of dramatic modes for example Improvisation, devising, • keep a weekly written record of individual progress , • reflect upon the ongoing tutor feedback and assessment , • communicate Shakespeare's lines effectively to an audience supporting the voice with breath, articulating with clarity, emotional colour and the appropriate projection , • interpret and express the role with confidence, informed interpretation, imagination, social awareness in the appropriate genre and dramatic panache., Those with a passing acquaintance with Shakespeare, those who want to become reacqauinted, or those who want to know what all the fuss is about.
