Use fast, contemporary methods for fashionable and successful dressmaking and tailoring. You will work on your own project, at your own pace, and will be shown the necessary processes to successfully complete the project. This will include pattern and fabric choice, basic pattern alterations,fitting and advice on fabric cutting. You will be shown basic construction methods, eg.seam finishes, pressing, sewing darts, invisible, lapped and fly front zips, waitsbands and facings. Machine projects could include jacket fitting, setting sleeves, collar and revers contstruction, lining jackets and coats using the bagging out method, pocket construction, trouser fitting and the handling of special fabrics eg. velvet, leather, sheers and silks., , By the end of this course you should be able to:, - Select and use appropriate settings on a sewing machine., - Sew and neaten a seam., - Use sewing techniques as required by your garment pattern. , - Use tools and equipment safely, , There is no set 'homework', but to get the most out of the course, you are welcome to do further work at home., There is no qualification for this course., , , , Anyone who wishes to learn or improve their dressmaking skills. It is important to note that craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
