A Day of Silversmithing

If you have ever been curious whether Silversmithing is for you, then this day provides a fabulous opportunity to find out first hand., , This workshop will cover the essentials of jewellery-making in metal through demonstrations and your individual project., Beginners will learn basic jewellery making skills - piercing, filing, drilling, polishing, annealing and soldering., , By the end of the course you will have used the above techniques and made a simple silver bangle., • Cut and form sheet metal and wire, • Anneal, texture and solder metal, • Experiment with materials and finishes, • Design and make a piece of work using skills you have learnt, • Be aware of and work to the health and safety guidelines For those wanting an introduction to the art of silversmithing. There is no previous experience or knowledge of this subject required and all are welcome.

Entry requirements

If you have any Silversmithing tools please bring them along. You will also need to purchase silver from the tutor on the day. This will cost about £20 but will depend on the prevailing price of silver at the time. You will also need to bring packed lunch. Students should try to wear dark clothing or an apron as the polishing can get clothing dirty. Long hair should be tied back when soldering or polishing. No open toe shoes.
