This 'History - Churchill in World War I' course in Sevenoaks considers Winston Churchill's life and career during World War I, which has been described as a 'bitter but complete apprenticeship' for what was to follow during World War II., , Having traced Churchill's pre-war life and career, you will consider his period as First Lord of the Admiralty and his demise following the Gallipoli campaign in 1915. Emphasis, however, shall be on the period of time Churchill spent as a soldier on the Western Front during 1915 and 1916. You will go on to assess how his experiences shaped his future life and career, starting with his time as Minister of Munitions from 1917., , At the end of the course, you should be able to:, , • Place two of Churchill's WWI experiences in the broader context of his life and career, • Discuss two of Churchill's main experiences on the Western Front, • Assess the significance of these four experiences to his subsequent life and career Anyone interested in British Social History during the early 20th century and the 1914-18 period in particular and anyone with an interest in the life and career of Winston Churchill.
