Oil Painting and Acrylics - Summer School

A short course that provides a thorough introduction to oil and acrylic painting, where you will learn some basic techniques of the medium. You will begin with some medium-based exercises, before progressing to make a series of small paintings that explore different subjects. Reference will also be made to the work of other artists as appropriate., , By the end of the course you should be able to:, Produce a series of simple studies using oil and acrylic paint., Make a preliminary drawing to establish a composition., Select and use the appropriate brushes and materials., Mix colours using basic colour theory., Produce small paintings in both oils and acrylics., Work to health and safety guidelines., , There is no homework requirement for this course. Beginners and those with some experience. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.

Entry requirements

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound, and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own 'shops' where you are able to buy materials at competitive prices. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
