Jewellery and Silversmithing

This Jewellery course will teach you to work with various metals including silver, copper and brass. Project sheets will be given to inspire your designing to help you create unique "one off" items of jewellery. Practical demonstrations and handouts will be given for every new technical process you will learn. Each project sheet given will cover new technical processes and many different visual inspirations will be given i.e. artists, nature, architecture and different cultures. , Initially techniques covered will be; silver soldering, forming, sawing, emerying/filing, texturing and polishing. , Additional technical processes that maybe taught, i.e. metal clay, riveting, casting, granulation, reticulation, stone setting, fold forming, oxidisation and enamelling., By the end of the course you will be able to:, Use the technique of soldering to manipulate silver or metal, Implement design in your work through specific project sheets , Set stones in order of ease; bezel settings, tube settings and finally claw settings., Carve wax and learn every aspect of the Lost Wax process., and be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines, This course is for anyone interested in the Craft of Silversmithing whether you are a beginner or experienced in using metal as all levels of experience are welcome. , It is important to note that craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another person, please ask to speak with the Progamme Manager.

Entry requirements

Please bring to the first session a protective overall or apron and notebook and pen.
