The first Session will look at ways in which Artists from different periods and cultures have interpreted the Landscape. From interpretations of Japanese mountains, Australian outback to the rolling English hills of Ravilious. We will look at early Italian paintings and the beginnings of perspective, at the techniques of the Impressionists at Cezanne, the Fauves and on to Ben Nicholson, Iven Hitchens and David Hockney. Landscape has been an important and central theme for Artists throughout the ages and there will be no shortage of images to inspire you. Sessions 2 and 3 we will be drawing and painting and taking photographs outside in our wonderful local landscape and for the remainder of the course we will be creating a painting based on these field studies. You will be encouraged to focus on a small area rather than a sweeping view of the landscape.
