This Barbering qualification is internationally recognised by City and Guilds. The course is based at the College's Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Department which has fully equipped Salons open to the public. The course will develop existing hairdressing cutting skills and introduce new techniques required by the barbering industry. The main aim of the framework is the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Barbering of which you will cover topics such as: Clipper work, Use of grades, Short back and sides, Scissor / clipper, over comb work, Cut throat razors, Health and safety, Blow drying hair, Beards and moustaches. Also you must fully complete functional skills in Maths and English, Employee Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. These skills enable you to work confidently, effectively and independently in life and at work. Functional Skills have been produced as a response to calls from employers for more people to have these skills and they therefore form an integral part of an apprenticeship framework. They are the key to success that will open doors to learning and work. These are a mandatory part of the course however you may have already completed these through a previous apprenticeship.
