On this course you will cover skills such as bricklaying, tiling, plumbing, repairs, painting and decorating, plastering and carpentry and joinery, achieving a Level 2 Diploma in Property Maintenance. Successful completion of the course prepares you for employment and further training in Property Maintenance. The training is driven by employers needs for multi-skilled workers and you will learn your new skills in our on-site workshops including a machine workshop, bench workshop, learning resource room and a purpose built skills training area. The course is made up of the following mandatory units: Building Methods - how buildings are built and the role you as a bricklayer would play. Carrying out small-scale masonry repairs - Covers repairs and reinstatement of masonry walling, roof tiling, paving, and drainage systems. Carrying out small - scale painting, decorating and associated trade repairs - Covers repairs and reinstatement of wall and floor ceramic tiling, painting and decoration and glazing. Carrying out small-scale plastering trade repairs - Covers repairs and reinstatement of plastered surfaces, including cement renders and floor screeds. Carrying out small-scale plumbing repairs - Covers repairs and renewal of domestic plumbing (sinks and sanitary ware), rainwater systems and roof flashings. Carrying out small-scale wood trade repairs - Covers repairs and renewal fencing, timber components and related ironmongery. Communications - how the construction industry operates and communicates, and how you as a bricklayer would communicate with others. Additional compulsory elements: Functional Skills: English, Maths & IT (if you do not already hold this qualification or GCSE at grade C or above). Personal and Social Development: This separate qualification will prepare you for life outside college, helping you to find a job. You can also choose to study additional units for a broader insight into the construction industry.
