UPDATED 20160411 14:23:35

This practical, work-related course provides a broad foundation on which to build knowledge of the Public Services and a firm basis for specialism in a selected field of this sector. You may leave the course at the end of the first year with 90 credits, however successful completion of the full 2 year course is equivalent to 3 A-levels therefore attracting UCAS points which will enable you to apply for a place at University. The Extended Diploma is made up of 18 units: four core units plus 14 specialist units. The structure of the programme provides an innovative and creative curriculum, covering core areas such as government policies, human rights, citizenship and fitness testing and training. Units typically include: Government and Policies, Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services, Outdoor and Adventurous Expeditions, Crime and its effects on Society, Physical Preparation, Health and Lifestyle, Command and Control in the Uniformed Public Services. In addition to the National Diploma, you will have the opportunity to study for courses such as the IFS Certificate in Financial studies in year one and the IFS Diploma in Financial studies in year two. Both currently have a tariff of up to 60 UCAS points and are bench marked against A-level Economics. Other courses may be offered alongside the Diploma such as Employability Skills and Exercise Studies which help develop the learner, widen their knowledge and ensure the learning experience is diverse and exciting. Past learners have found this a fantastic opportunity for university entrance and we are the possibly the only provider in the county to offer this all-round programme. The course is delivered using a balance between practical and theory. We include e-learning, one-to-one support, Individual Learning Plans, external visits, events and speakers.
