Applied Science involves a large element of Biology, Chemistry and some Physics. It will also prepare students for work in Science and Health related fields such as Biomedical Science, Nutrition, Pharmaceutical Science, Radiography and Physiotherapy. This course provides the equivalent to 3 A-levels. It prepares students for work in Science and Health related fields, and further study. Year 1:- Fundamentals of Science; Scientific Practical techniques; Working in the Science Industry; Genetics and Genetic Engineering; Physiology of Human Body Systems; Biochemistry and Biochemical Techniques; Using Mathematical tools in Science; Using Statistics in Science; Perceptions of Science; Diseases and Infections. Year 2:- Scientific Investigation; Chemical Laboratory Techniques; Medical Physics Techniques; Physiology of Human Regulation and Reproduction; Biomedical Science Techniques; Chemistry for Biology Technicians; Physiological Investigations; Energy Changes and their applications; Microbiological techniques.
