The Level 3 BTEC in Medical Science covers mostly biology units including genetics, human and reproductive physiology as well as biomedical science. The course delivery places particular emphasis on acquiring crucial technical skills which will prepare you for successful further study and careers in biology fields. You will complete a 90 Credit Level 3 Diploma in your first year and then have the opportunity to progress onto a top-up course in the second year which will give you an Extended Level 3 Diploma. In addition to your course, you will also study either Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths, dependent on your current GCSE grade. The College have 3 fully equipped laboratories which are used extensively and you will conduct practical experiments on a regular basis weekly. You will also be expected to carry out work experience alongside your course. Trips and guest speakers will be planned throughout the year.
