This programme will benefit anyone who wishes to obtain a solid grounding in the principles of double-entry bookkeeping, the recording of day-to-day transactions, balancing-off techniques and the extraction of a trial balance. Learners will get the opportunity to practice their skills both manually and on the computer. Learners will also obtain an understanding of the basic principles of Costing as well as gaining an insight into some of the administrative issues facing people who work in an accounting or financial environment. The Accounting modules will cover the basic principles of double-entry bookkeeping, the manual recording of day-to-day transactions into the daybooks and ledgers as well as the balancing-off of accounts and extraction of trial balances. The SAGE module will provide an opportunity for learners to see how those operations are carried out using one of the most widely used computer packages in the UK. Basic Costing will provide an introduction to Cost and Management Accounting. Working Effectively in Accounts and Finance looks at some of the administrative aspects of working in an accounts or office environment. Topics covered include scheduling/prioritisation of work, teamwork and office communication.

The Computerised Accounting and WEAF are assessed through invigilated online 'time-constrained' assignments. Key skills are assessed through online national tests. Compulsory elements include: - Processing Bookkeeping Transactions (PBT); - Control Accounts, Journals & The Banking System; - Basic Costing; - Computerised Accounting (Sage); - Working Effectively in Accounts & Finance (WEAF).
