Students studying for the Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, study a balanced programme of scientific disciplines drawn from the biological, physical and chemical sciences. In addition to this you will also have the chance to investigate how science is used in medicine and health care, forensics and in industry. The course content reflects how science is used in the science sector and adopts a 'hands-on' vocational approach to scientific training. Students are required to take part in all aspects of practical work, industrial visits and fieldwork (where required). There are two routes to be awarded the subsidiary diploma. You many take the single award option comprising of 3 units in year one leading to the award of a certificate then three more units in year two leading to the full subsidiary diploma. The final Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma is an equivalent qualification to one A Level. Or you may take the double award option where you will study 6 units in year one leading to the award of the full subsidiary diploma followed by 6 units in the second year leading to the award of the full level 3 BTEC diploma worth two A level equivalent.
