Foundation Degrees are new higher education qualifications. They combine academic education with work-based learning, meaning you can continue to work while you study. Foundation Degrees are an exciting opportunity to gain a contemporary qualification relevant to you career. The Health Studies Award is a new development designed for individuals who prefer to pursue the option of obtaining education in health issues and their related subjects without the requirement of obtaining a qualification as a health or social care professional. You will develop a contemporary and multidisciplinary approach to public health, health policy and customer and stakeholder engagement. The Health Studies award is for students with an interest in health, social care and health and social care related issues but do not wish to enter a specific health or social care profession. The range of issues studied reflects the ways in which health is understood from a variety of perspectives and will take you from an initial introduction of 'What is Health?' through to engaging in an individual research project exploring an issue of your choice in greater depth A unique feature is the opportunity to undertake work experience throughout the 2 years in an area of particular individual interest. Course Content Students will complete a range of modules including: 1. Key issues in Health 2. Public Health 3. Leadership and research methods 4. Physical activity, exercise and health 5. Customer and stakeholder engagement

A variety of academically rigorous assessment tasks, activities and formats will be used to suit different learning styles. Assessments are designed to be interesting, relevant and contemporary, with the aim of enhancing personal and professional development, while also evaluating performance. Assessments match learning outcomes within each module and the overall pattern of assessment matches the overarching learning outcomes of the full award. You are therefore advised to pay particular attention to the learning outcomes when completing assessments and to seek clarification immediately if you do not understand them. Formative assessment and tutor assessment feedback are an opportunity for ongoing reflection on your performance. The aim of formative and summative feedback is to help you to understand how to improve your work, as well as offering you the opportunity to consider and discuss your own progress. Assignments are given an appropriate amount of time for completion that takes into account workload and work-based learning commitments.
