This qualification focuses on practical skills and knowledge. This ensures that when the learner completes the qualification they will have gained practical experience and some expectation of some of the situations that they could face in a job role within the engineering sector. It covers the intermediate level knowledge and understanding of a broad range of engineering competencies and has been developed in consultation with Colleges, Training Associations and Industry to ensure that it meets the needs of the engineering sector. This Diploma does not require occupational evidence. Course Content The course combines underpinning knowledge with practical skills and training takes place in our well-equipped workshops on the campus. The course consists of the following units: Mandatory Units: Engineering Environment Awareness; Engineering Techniques; Engineering Principles. Specialist Units: Fitting and Assembly Techniques; Turning and Milling Techniques and Technology; Engineering Materials Processes. The course also includes: Functional Skills Mathematics (Level 1) and Functional Skills English (Level 1).

Entry requirements

Students must provide their own substantial footwear. It is also required that all learners will purchase and wear a Stafford College Engineering polo shirt and warehouse coat. These will be made available at Induction where payment will be required.
