This programme provides students with a broad-based knowledge and the roles undertaken in the Uniformed Public Services with the opportunity to select some specialised units. Course Content The programme comprises seven mandatory units: 1. Public Service Skills 2. Career Planning for the Public Services 3. Improving Health & Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services 4. Employment in the Uniformed Public Services; 5. Adventurous Activities & Teamwork for the Public Services 6. Law & its Impact on the Individual 7. Security Procedure in Public Services Additional Option BTEC L2 Certificate in Law & Legal Work This is for students considering a career in law enforcement only adding two hours to your weekly timetable and is also an excellent stepping stone to our L3 law course. Vocational Training The vocational training involved forms approximately 30% of the course and has been designed in conjunction with the various services. These services also have an input into the course through presentations and visits. There is no guarantee that our students will be accepted for training in the careers of their choice but their studies at college will give them the best possible chance. English & Maths We are committed to helping students improve their skills in English and maths. Students on a full-time course at College who missed out on GCSE qualifications at grades A-C in these subjects at school will attend additional classes and receive support to enhance their grades. Depending on individual ability, students will work towards GCSE, City & Guilds or Functional Skills awards to ensure that they have the qualifications needed to progress to university or employment.
