Education Foundation Degree

The Foundation Degree in Education (FDE) is aimed at people who wish to develop their role in supporting education. This will include teaching assistants learning support assistants and a range of other educational related roles. It is designed specifically for people who wish to combine work and study. The FDE provides an opportunity to develop learners skills in supporting education (including communication, team-working, information literacy and academic skills). It aims to develop learners understanding of their current professional role to support the development of their practice. The course allows them to work towards obtaining a degree and promotes progression towards alternative careers in education, such as teaching. Holders of the Foundation Degree in Education will be entitled to add FdEd after their names. It is possible to progress from the Foundation Degree directly to a BA (Hons) Education. This provides the candidate with an honours degree in Education Studies and access to Qualified Teacher Status. There is also an opportunity to continue their studies on the MA Education. Course Content The course consists of 8 modules. All modules are 30 credits. Modules studied in year 1 at level 4 include: 1. Personal Professional and Academic Development 2. Learning and Development 3. Behaviour for Learning 4. Supporting Learning and Inclusion Modules studied in year 2 at level 5 include: 1. Professionalism and Career Development 2. Developing Educational Practice within the Inclusive Organisation 3. Learning and the Inclusive Curriculum 4. Action Research
