Dental Nurses National Diploma Level 3

The course is intended for the training and education of Dental Nurses, but is of particular interest to those wishing to obtain the National Diploma qualification in order to gain GDC registration. Course Content The course will cover all sections of the National Diploma syllabus and covers four domains of professional practice: 1. Clinical 2. Professional 3. Communication 4. Management and Leadership It will include lectures and demonstrations by college tutors and visiting lecturers in the study of the theory and practice of the various branches of dentistry to ensure correct procedures for surgery. The topics covered include: Health and Safety/cross infection control; Dental materials workshops; Tooth morphology and charting; Sterilisation, Hygiene and Bacteriology; Anatomy/Physiology; Radiography; Crown and bridge procedures; Prosthetics/Restorative dentistry; Oral surgery/Extractions; Drugs and medication; Medical and Dental Emergencies/anaesthetics and sedation; Orthodontics; Oral health promotion/Periodontics; Communication; Administration and legalities including child protection. Observations will be arranged during the course. Homework Requirements Students will be expected to complete between one and two hours home study per week and will include written work. Career Opportunities/Progression Once a Dental Nurse has achieved the National Diploma, they are entitled to register with the GDC. There are then a number of post qualification routes available that cover many of the specialities within dentistry and provide Dental Nurses the opportunity to expand their knowledge and capabilities within that field. These include Oral Health Education and Dental Radiography.
