Is this the right course for me? Yes, if you would like to learn techniques, which will help to strengthen the muscles, connected with posture. It is a mixed level class, suitable for beginners at any level of fitness and those who have already done a little Pilates. Learners will be expected to practise at home following worksheet provided by tutor. What will I learn? You will learn to improve muscle strength, flexibility, posture, co-ordination and relaxation techniques. Strengthen and lengthen muscles without adding bulk (working on abdominals, hips, and thighs). Execute low-impact exercises specifically designed not to cause strain on the back or put stress on the joints. How will I learn? The tutor will introduce you to the main principles of Pilates: relaxation, concentration, alignment breathing, centring, co-ordination, flowing movement and stamina through participation in a non-competitive exercise programme tailored to your knowledge and fitness level. Will I gain a qualification? You will not gain a formal qualification but you may receive a Certificate of Attendance and Achievement from your tutor. What can I do next? You will be able to re-enrol next term to continue developing your Pilates techniques. What do I need to bring to the classes? Please wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing e.g. leggings, tracksuit, well-fitting T-shirt, not shorts. Can I talk to someone about my course before I start it? It is usually possible to put you directly in touch with the tutor if a member of the Community Learning MK staff cannot answer your query.
