Is this the right course for me? If you handle open food for a job or as a volunteer you need to take or update this certificate every 3 years. What will I learn? You will learn how to handle food safely. The short course covers simple bacteriology, contamination hazards and prevention, personal hygiene and a simple guide to the law. How will I learn? You will learn by listening to talks, joining in discussions, question & answers. Will I gain a qualification? By passing a 30 question multi-choice test you will gain a certificate from the Institute of Environmental Health. Please note that certificates take 4 - 6 weeks to arrive. What can I do next? Intermediate and advanced courses are available. Your tutor can advise you on what you can do next. What do I need to bring to the classes? A pen and a highlighter A packed lunch (vending machines are available for snacks and drinks). Can I talk to someone about my course before I start it? It is usually possible to put you directly in touch with the tutor if a member of the Community Learning MK staff cannot answer your query.
