The Learner will be able to produce a plate from card, ink up and print from it. The course will enable the learner to distinguish the difference between the basic methods of printmaking following a discussion with examples of the common methods of printmaking. They will be shown examples of previous students work, and be shown examples of contemporary printmakers' work. The learner will then have the opportunity to produce a print plate of their own by using the card-cutting method. Learners will have the chance to make several prints and depending on the complexity of the plate, should also be able to make more than one plate. MorningFollowing our discussion and demonstration, you will select an image if you have one to copy on to the cardboard. You will then begin to remove pieces of the card structure using a craft scalpel to reveal a design of your choice on the plate. You will then be shown how to seal your plate(s) ready for printing.AfternoonThere will be an initial demonstration on inking up your plate and using the etching press safely. You will then have the opportunity to ink up and print from your finished plate(s). Learners will have the chance to make several prints and should be able to make more than one plate. You will have access to one to one support throughout. The overall aim of these workshops is to help you develop an understanding of basic print techniques through a mixture of practice, discussion and demonstration techniques.
