Course shortcode: ECN01 AS and A Level Economics is ideal for those wanting to understand how economic policy influences the daily lives and decisions of individuals, business organisations and governments. The first year is divided into two units: micro and macro economics. You will explore a wide variety of current economic issues applicable to individual markets and the national economy, such as the operation of demand, supply in different markets, causes of market failure and methods used by the government to intervene in the running of the UK economy. "Economics can be a tricky subject but one which universities value highly. It helps you to appreciate how industries, businesses and governments around you work, and blurs the lines between art and science through a combination of numbers and words, problems and essays, calculations and interpretations." Ruth Elliott, Lecturer in Economics
