Course shortcode: SCL01 A Level Sociology is simply the study of society. It involves the critical evaluation and assessment of the main institutions of society such as family, the education system, religious beliefs and crime. You will explore the answers to questions such as 'why is education compulsory?', 'why do some people commit crime?' and 'how does the mass media impact our own personal identities?' You will take part in active discussions on pressing matters in society, whilst developing your analytical and problem solving skills. There will also be opportunities to join trips linked with the syllabus. Sociology is a worthwhile course for students of any age and background, in terms of general education and lifelong learning. Equally, the material studied is useful for candidates intending to pursue careers in the field of social sciences.
