A Level Business

You will find Business Studies to be a challenging, relevant and rewarding subject, which will teach you the day-to-day practices of businesses, and aims to make you think critically about business. Business Studies at this level encompasses many disciplines and covers different forms of organisation and business activity. The course covers marketing, finance, operations management, human resource management and how external factors can impact on a business. Business is a real world subject and this course uses case-studies to reinforce learning as well as applying the knowledge and evaluating these in the exam. Year 1 Theme 1: Marketing and People - You will learn about the characteristics you need to develop to be successful in starting up a business. Theme 2: Managing Business Activity - This looks at how the business can be made more effective and includes marketing, productivity, capacity utilisation, stock control, lean management. Year 2 Theme 3: Business Decisions and Strategy - This introduces you to functional objectives and strategies, and examines their appropriateness in the context of corporate objectives. Theme 4: Global business - We examine the impact upon businesses, and the responses they may take. The unit also examines a number of themes which are important in the strategic management of businesses.
