We live in a media rich age, in which we are bombarded from all directions by finely targeted promotional products, designed by graphic designers. We are surrounded by their designs in both print and electronic format, from advertising billboards, shampoo bottles and magazines to television and the internet. As a graphic designer, you will learn the skills to design and make all aspects of graphic products, from packaging to promotion campaigns, using the latest smart materials and desktop publishing software.

Unit 2: Design & Technology in Practice In this unit you will develop your knowledge and understanding of a wide range of materials and processes used in the field of design and manufacturing. This will be assessed in a written examination. Second year (A2) Unit 3: Design for the Future In this unit you will examine the important contribution designers have made to society and the impact of design and technological advances upon the environment. This will be assessed in a written examination. Unit 4: Commercial Design In this unit you will be given the opportunity to apply the skills you have acquired and developed throughout the course, to design and make a product of your choice. You will need to adopt a commercial design approach to your work, reflecting how a professional designer might deal with a design problem and its resolution.
