UPDATED 20160330 09:10:10

The course is for those who have a genuine commitment to work with and study animals. Students get first hand experience of handling and observing animals in captivity and natural habitats. You need to be enthusiastic and committed to hard work - especially during the less glamorous aspects of the course. Ideal if: you have a genuine commitment to working with and studying animals and are enthusiastic and committed to hard work. You'll need: three GCSEs at grade C or above (two of which must be English, mathematics or science) or equivalent qualifications. Mature students are welcome without formal qualifications as long as they have appropriate knowledge or experience. You'll learn: about the husbandry and welfare of a range of animals including exotics, animal collections, wildlife and domestic species. You will also develop functional skills, such as numeracy and IT, required in all types of employment. Expect: to gain the balance of skills and knowledge needed to perform well in both scientific and animal management environments. You'll love: gaining first-hand experience of handling and observing animals in captivity and in natural habitats through links with Paradise Park and Dartmoor Zoological Park. You'll go onto: gain employment in an animal related job or progress to further study on our Animal Management City & Guilds Extended Diploma or an animal management apprenticeship. Mature students may gain entry to higher education.
